FAMILIES BUILDING FAITH

The children’s faith formation program for children 4 years old through 6th grade has the following mission, goals, and objectives:

Mission
To ensure that our children will:

  • develop a deepening realization of God’s love for them
  • experience the mystery of God’s presence in prayer, ritual, and sacrament
  • and integrate the principles of Catholic social teaching into their lives

Goals
Our children will:

  • value prayer and sacramental celebrations as resources for a faithful life
  • understand and appreciate the riches of the Catholic tradition
  • develop an understanding of and reverence for the Scriptures
  • learn to respect themselves, others and all of creation as gifts of God
  • reflect gospel values in their actions and words
  • practice service to others

Objectives
The program will provide:

  • a curriculum based on the Sunday lectionary
  • bimonthly faith formation sessions during the school year
  • opportunities for children to be involved in parish life
  • community-building and spiritually-enriching activities for families
  • protection and safety of children during sessions
  • service projects/opportunities for children
  • support for parents in developing the faith of their children through family faith conversations, family ritual, and family outreach
  • support and training for the volunteer catechists
  • communication with parents

Since our faith formation program receives its structure from what we hear and what we do at Sunday Mass, the children must attend Mass each week. Our 9 a.m. Mass is geared toward families; however, your family may attend the 4 p.m. Mass on Saturdays or the 7:30 a.m. Mass on Sundays.

CHILDREN’S LITURGY
OF THE WORD

Celebrated on most Sundays at the 9:00 a.m. Mass, the Liturgy of the Word for Children aims to simplify for children ages 6 -10 years old the celebration of God’s Word in anticipation of the day they will fully join the adult assembly.

In the Children’s Liturgy of the Word, the children arrive with their parents and join the assembly for the Introductory Rites. After the Opening Prayer, the priest invites the children forward to attend their own special Liturgy of the Word in the Community Room. The children hear the Word proclaimed and broke open in a way that is relevant to them. They rejoin the assembly at the Preparation of the Gifts.

There is no fee for registration for Children’s Liturgy of the Word. Children receive a handout for parents to use at home.

Volunteers plan and preside at the Children’s Liturgy of the Word. There is a need for more people to share their gifts in this ministry.
